Stephen Todd Sharp Death: Sheriff’s Office updates on injured Placer County deputy in Colfax gunfight.

Stephen Todd Sharp Death – A deputy from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, who engaged in a gunfight with a burglary suspect in Colfax, is currently recovering in the hospital and may be discharged soon. In a Facebook post on Sunday morning, the Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the deputy, identified as Porter, stating that he is “eating well” and has even taken some steps.

Although the nature of his injuries was not disclosed, dispatchers were informed that he had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. Despite a phone call seeking comment, an agency spokesman did not respond on Sunday morning. The Sheriff’s Office mentioned in the post that Porter could potentially be released by Monday. The incident occurred on Friday morning when deputies on patrol spotted a van matching the description of a vehicle connected to a recent burglary.

Following a tense confrontation, the suspect, later identified as Stephen Todd Sharp, fired shots at the deputies, who returned fire. During the exchange, Porter was injured and subsequently airlifted from the scene. Additional deputies arrived, and Sharp, 37, was later discovered dead inside his vehicle. The agency did not confirm whether his death was a result of a gunshot wound.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Sharp was originally from Tennessee but had been residing in his van in the Colfax area. The shooting is currently under investigation by agency detectives, and the deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. The Placer County District Attorney’s Office will also review the case. The Sheriff’s Office assured that updates on Porter’s condition will continue to be provided.
