Oscar Pistorius: Paralympian gold medalist released on parole and at home 11 years after murdering Reeva Steenkamp

OSCAR PISTORIUS – Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympian gold medalist, has been released from a South African prison today, marking 11 years since the tragic incident in which he killed his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. According to South Africa’s Correctional Services Department, Pistorius has been granted admission into the community corrections system and is now residing at his home.

Pistorius, who is a double amputee, was convicted of murdering Steenkamp in 2013. He shot her multiple times through a locked toilet door using a 9mm pistol on Valentine’s Day at their residence in Pretoria.

Now described as a grey-haired smoker who has found solace in religion, the 37-year-old will embark on his new life on parole, residing just a few miles away from the South African capital. He will be living within the secure confines of his wealthy uncle’s property, protected by high walls.

Known for his passion for firearms, Pistorius maintained that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder. However, he was convicted of culpable homicide, a crime similar to manslaughter, in 2014.

In 2015, he was found guilty of the more severe charge of murder, and subsequently, his initial sentence was deemed too lenient after a successful appeal by the prosecutors. As a result, Pistorius was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
