Chanterria Albert Obituary: St. Landry Parish Sheriff identifies off-duty deputy killed in Opelousas shooting incident

Chanterria Albert Obituary – Chanterria Albert, a 23-year-old off-duty corrections deputy from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, tragically lost her life in a shooting incident that occurred in Opelousas late Tuesday night. The incident was reported to the Opelousas Police around 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Park Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered multiple shell casings and were informed that two individuals had been shot and taken to a local hospital. Unfortunately, Deputy Albert succumbed to her injuries, while the second victim remains in stable condition.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz of St. Landry Parish expressed his department’s deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “We are mourning the loss of one of our own to senseless gun violence.” Deputy Albert had been a valued member of the department since May 10, 2022, and had the privilege of working alongside her mother, Deputy Cherikas Albert.

The Opelousas Police Department has initiated an investigation into the shooting and is seeking assistance from the public. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, they are urged to contact the Opelousas Police Department at 337-948-2500.
